As some point in the future you may get a flat tire and it is good to know how to change a tire if you are stuck with no help on the way. These are the steps to know in order to do the job successfully:
1) Always make sure you pull over where the ground is solid and there is no chance of the car rolling. Also make sure it is in a spot where you can get out of the car safely.
2) Turn on the hazard lights and your parking brake.
3) There should always be a spare tire in the trunk of the car. Make sure this is the case before you start on the road. Also you will need a jack to lift the car and wrench. These three items should always be in your car.
4) If you have a wheel cover or hubcap, take it off. You should be able to pull it off.
5) Use the wrench to loosen the lug nuts (screws) by turning counterclockwise. Repeat this step for each lug nuts until they are all loose but don't take off just yet.
6) Use the jack to lift the tire you need to change off the ground. Make sure you place the jack against the metal part of the car's frame. The tire should be about six inches off the ground.
7) Remove the lug nuts completely and keep them in a safe spot. Now you can take off the tire entirely by pulling it towards yourself.
8) Line up the holes in the spare tire with the lug nut posts and place the spare on the wheelbase. Push the tire as far as you can onto the wheelbase.
9) Put the lugnuts on loosely and using the jack lower the car until the tire is touching the ground. Now you can start to tighten the lugnuts.
10) Make sure the lugnuts are on tight and then lower the car completely using the jack. Once the car is on the ground check the lugnuts again to make sure they are on tight.

In both cases (items 5 and 9) make sure the tire is still firmly in place and it cannot be shaken out of its place. Turn the lugnuts by about half to one turn from its final tightened position.
