How to ace the job interview

Whether this is your first job interview or not, there are certain questions that are always asked in a job interview.

  • Tell me about yourself. This is usually one of the first questions asked. At this point they don't want to know about your personal life, or family problems. They want to know what you have done in the past that will be valuable in their workplace.

  • What's your biggest strength? They want to see if your strengths match what is required in the job. Don't say things like hard worker which does not really mean anything.

  • What's your biggest weakness? This is very tricky question. Most people use the term perfectionist. Try to be honest and say something that you know about yourself and that you are working towards changing. This shows a growth mindset.

  • Why do you want this job? This is where your research into the company comes in. Make sure you know what the company does and what is required of you if you get the job.

  • Why did you leave your last job? If you had a last job, never say anything negative about the place or people you worked with. Just say what you learned and be positive about your past experience.

  • Why should we hire you? This is the time to brag about yourself. Tell them what you can bring to their company such as your skills, strengths, values and experience.
