The Dow Jones or its full name the Dow Jones Industrial Average is a stock market index that tracks 30 of the largest, most popular, publicly-traded companies on the New York Stock Exchange. Companies like Apple, Microsoft, and coca-cola are among these companies. It is named after Charles Dow and Edward Jones who developed it in 1882. The Dow Jones & Company is one of the world's largest business and financial news companies. The Dow Jones is a good indicator of how the stock market and economy are doing in the U.S.
