One example of an acitivity to raise funds is by offering stocks (also known as equity) in the company to the general public or shareholders.

Companies that thrive and do well can decide to go public. This means they will issue shares on a stock exchange through an initial public offering or an IPO. By doing so, they can raise a great deal of funds for the company.
